Who We Serve

Grades 3-8

Building the Cognitive

Focus: Creating academic discipline through advising in a joyous environment, built on our GPA Foundational Pillars and Core Principles. Students gain Success Skills — time management, organization, inquiry, focus — essential in every professional field. We aim to alleviate family anxiety by winning the homework battle early.

Game Plan Academy

What each student gains:

Executive functioning coaching is the foundation that helps students build the skills they need to learn with confidence, stay organized, and take meaningful ownership of their academic journey. These skills are developed through guidance, practice, and consistent support. Students will receive structured strategies for planning, time management, emotional regulation, and follow through. The EF coach becomes a steady anchor, helping students break tasks into manageable steps, create routines that reduce stress, and strengthen habits that make learning feel manageable rather than overwhelming. Executive functioning coaching doesn’t just improve school performance, it shapes a student’s future by building independence, resilience, and the confidence to navigate college, careers, and life with clarity and purpose.

Executive functioning, communication (self-advocacy, public speaking, networking), collaboration, citizenship, etiquette: these are the core GPA Success Skills. The Synergistic Impact- When integrated together through a structured “Game Plan,” these skills transform students from guided learners into proactive architects of their own success. By establishing these habits before high school, students learn to master the craft of being a student early on. As a result, they are better prepared to enter their teenage years with the organizational systems to manage heavier academic loads, the communication skills to seek out opportunities, and the emotional intelligence to lead effectively among their peers.

Foundational academic advising during grades 3–8 fundamentally shifts how young learners view their education. Historically, formal academic advising has been delayed until high school—often too late to address deeply ingrained habits, skill deficits, or misaligned course pathways. By introducing foundational academic advising early within Game Plan Academy (GPA), students build self-awareness, learn to set long-term goals, and understand the direct connection between their daily effort and future opportunities. Foundational advising explicitly links classroom work to real-world pathways, helping students discover their interests, strengths, and long-term aspirations. When students understand why math, writing, or critical thinking matters to their personal goals, intrinsic motivation replaces passive compliance.

Why This Matters

The Developmental Context
In 3rd grade, students typically have one primary classroom teacher managing their schedule. By 6th–8th grade, they transition to departmentalized schedules with multiple teachers, distinct expectations, varied assignment portals, and long-term projects.
Why it Matters in Grades 3–8

Without explicit training in organization and time management, bright students often experience an academic drop in middle school solely due to misplaced materials, forgotten deadlines, or poor planning—not a lack of cognitive ability. Mastering EF skills early builds the cognitive scaffolding necessary to handle high school workloads, extracurricular demands, and independent study habits without burnout. Executive Function (EF) coaching also supports neurodivergent learners—such as individuals with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or dyscalculia—by bridging the gap between knowing what to do and actually being able to do it. Because traditional environments often assume a standard set of self-regulation and processing skills, neurodivergent individuals can face friction with executive functioning tasks like initiating work, managing time, and regulating emotional responses to frustration. EF coaching doesn’t aim to “fix” how a brain works; rather, it provides customized strategies, structures, and external toolkits that align with the brain’s natural style.
